Dr. Wael Al-Delaimy, M.D., Ph.D. presented a talk titled, “The Big Picture: transition from public to global health,” to a multi-disciplinary audience of UCSD faculty, staff, and visiting scholars June 27, 2013. While Public Health focuses on the prevention and treatment of disease in a specific geographic area, Global Health’s focus is on the health of populations in a global context and transcends the perspectives and concerns of individual nations.

Dr. Al-Delaimy concluded his talk by highlighting the Global Health focus of the SRC’s CEC and RTC work in the Los Laureles Canyon and Tijuana River Estuary identifying crossborder flows of environmental toxicants as a bioregional approach to environmental health and to improve the health of residents in the San Diego-Tijuana border region.
